Meatless Monday 4th of July Edition
Happy July y'all! It's an exciting time to be alive!
Without further adieu, here are some totally plant-based, summertime-appropriate food options I suggest you get stoked about and pick up or whip up for your fourth of July BBQ or next pool party. Your local grocery store may not carry ALL of these options, but if you have a Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, or Lucky's, or any local health food store, you should be able to locate at least most of them!
The Beyond Beef Burger
I'm heading to a BBQ this week and will be picking these bad boys up at my local Whole Foods to throw on the grill. I'm also not-so-secretly stoked to make my non-vegan friends try these and see their reactions. These are the king of vegan burgers and taste so like real beef that I allmosstttt can't handle it (almost.) If you hate the taste of beef, I honestly wouldn't go for this option, and I'd instead recommend a Dr. Praeger's brand veggie burger, which are delish but don't taste like a real hamburger. However, if you've got vegan naysayers in your life, or just miss biting into a real burger, these have your name all over them.
CLICK HERE to go to the Beyond Meat site to locate the store nearest you that carries these. And if you can't find them in a store, grab one from the TGIFriday's menu next chance you get!
I'm not particularly proud of it, but I love love love a good hotdog...in fact, I've been known to eat them straight from the microwave dipped in mustard. I can't help it. These are my current favorite vegan sausages, though I also love basically any brand of vegan hotdog (or "not dog" as I've called them since I was a kid.) You can usually find the vegan hot dog options in the section with tofu and faux meats, or just ask someone at your grocery store!
Vegan potato salad
I made this recipe last 4th of july for a giant crowd, and it was one of the first things to get eaten up. I got on SUCH a kick with it, I continued to make it for the entire remainder of the summer--it's that good!
Grab the recipe here!
Vegan Macaroni Salad
Just like the potato salad, this was a massive hit at my party last year, and triggered a huge macaroni-salad kick for me that lasted all the way through summer. It's endlessly customizable so if you want to add or subtract veggies and spices of your choice, or play with the flavorings till you get the tanginess you want, go wild. This isn't a rocket-science style recipe, so just play with it!
Vegan Ben and Jerry's (New Flavors!)
You didn't think I would write my first post-competition food roundup post without mentioning ice cream, did you?? This is just one of the latest, exciting developments in the vegan ice cream world, but the one I was looking forward to trying most, and it was worth the wait! If you didn't know, now you know, Ben and Jerry's makes a ton of awesome vegan flavors like coconut seven layer bar, chunky monkey, cherry garcia, peanut butter cookie, and recently added cinnamon rolls, and my personal favorite, peanut butter half baked!
Consider this your Monday-morning permission to go grab a pint after work...you're welcome.
What will you be doing for the 4th? Let me know if you try out any of these products or recipes! Hope you enjoy!
